Satisfiability Threshold of the Skewed Random k-SAT

چکیده
We consider the satisfiability phase transition in skewed random k-SAT distributions. It is known that the random k-SAT model, in which the instance is a set of m k-clauses selected uniformly from the set of all k-clauses over n variables, has a satisfiability phase transition at a certain clause density. The essential feature of the random k-SAT is that positive and negative literals occur with equal probability in a random formula. How does the phase transition behavior change as the relative probability of positive and negative literals changes? In this paper we focus on a distribution in which positive and negative literals occur with different probability. We present empirical evidence for the satisfiability phase transition for this distribution. We also prove an upper bound on the satisfiability threshold and a linear lower bound on the number of literals in satisfying partial assignments of skewed random k-SAT formulas.

Balanced K-SAT and Biased random K-SAT on trees
Abstract We study and solve some variations of the random K-satisfiability problem balanced K-SAT and biased random K-SAT on a regular tree, using techniques we have developed earlier [14]. In both these problems, as well as variations of these that we have looked at, we find that the SATUNSAT transition obtained on the Bethe lattice matches the exact threshold for the same model on a random gr...
متن کاملThresholds for Random Geometric k-SAT
We study two geometric models of random k-satisfiability which combine random k-SAT with the Random Geometric Graph: boolean literals are placed uniformly at random or according to a Poisson process in a cube, and for each set of k literals contained in a ball of a given radius, a clause is formed. For k = 2 we find the exact location of the satisfiability threshold (as either the radius or int...
متن کاملRandom k-SAT and the Power of Two Choices
We study an Achlioptas-process version of the random k-SAT process: a bounded number of k-clauses are drawn uniformly at random at each step, and exactly one added to the growing formula according to a particular rule. We prove the existence of a rule that shifts the satisfiability threshold. This extends a well-studied area of probabilistic combinatorics (Achlioptas processes) to random CSP’s....
متن کاملThe Power of Choice for Random Satisfiability
We consider Achlioptas processes for k-SAT formulas. We create a semi-random formula with n variables and m clauses, where each clause is a choice, made on-line, between two or more uniformly random clauses. Our goal is to delay the satisfiability/unsatisfiability transition, keeping the formula satisfiable up to densities m/n beyond the satisfiability threshold αk for random k-SAT. We show tha...
متن کاملOn the satisfiability threshold and clustering of solutions of random 3-SAT formulas
We study the structure of satisfying assignments of a random 3-Sat formula. In particular, we show that a random formula of density α ≥ 4.453 almost surely has no non-trivial “core” assignments. Core assignments are certain partial assignments that can be extended to satisfying assignments, and have been studied recently in connection with the Survey Propagation heuristic for random Sat. Their ...
